Laneway festival has announced a number of new initiates for its 2018 run, all in the name of keeping partying punters safe and happy.
In 2017, inspired by Camp Cope’s It Takes One campaign, the festival launched 1800 Laneway, a hotline for patrons to report inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour.
This year it’s partnered with the Good Night Out Campaign to add a text option to its hotline, all festival-goers have to do it text what they see to 0404 242 555. The move have been praised by campaign organisers.
“There's no reason anyone should feel unsafe while out enjoying music with friends, and it's proactive and innovative measures like specialist training for staff and reporting via text that make all the difference,” Co-director of Good Night Out, Bryony Beynon said.

“Cultural change is not easy, but as a global organisation working in this space we've been really impressed by Laneway's commitment to best practice. We hope it has a positive impact across the Australian festival scene."
In the vein of Laneway firsts, patrons in Fremantle will be able to enjoy the beautiful surrounds with the introduction of day pass-outs.
Punters will be able to access Bather’s Beach between 11am to 4pm which will be manned by a designated Laneway Lifeguard and include everything from a cloaking service to stand-up paddle board hire.
Ticket holders will also be able to take advantage of a bunch of promotions and discounts at local Freo business, something that locals are excited about.
“The passout system at Laneway Festival this year will be a welcome boost for local business owners who will be able to share the benefits of having so many visitors in Fremantle,” Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said.
“It will give festival-goers the chance to explore what Fremantle has to offer.”
