Contractors for Rainbow Serpent music festival have been arrested following the discovery of large amounts of drugs and cash in their vehicle while on route to next week's festival.
As reported by The Courier, Pedro Gomide and Martin Mahoney were arrested after police found 260 grams of cocaine, 84 grams of cannabis, 15 grams of MDMA, 25 grams of amphetamine and amphetamine paste, one litre of GHB and four grams of hashish, as well as cash totaling $12,453 in AUD and $6,200 USD in their Toyota Hilux.
Police also found a list in Mahoney's wallet that included names and money owed.
The pair were contracted to work at the festival with Mahoney's company, Psyclone Tents, set to supply equipment for the weekend.
Organisers of Rainbow Serpent have issued a statement assuring attendees that their safety is their number one priority.
"To see this morning’s report that one of our contractors has been charged with serious drug offences has left us in shock and extremely disappointed. We unreservedly condemn these actions and appreciate the work of Victoria Police for preventing those drugs from arriving on site," the statement reads.
"What we want to reiterate and make clear to the Pyrenees community and our patrons is that we are 110% dedicated to making Rainbow as safe as possible."
