Heads up to those wanting to follow in the footsteps of Amy Shark, the Gold Coast Music Awards have opened nominations for 2018.

The awards are well-known for highlighting the up-and-comers of the sunny city, with this year's big night being accompanied with a beachside event headlined by Bobby Alu.

“We have an incredible calibre of talent coming out of the Gold Coast, from Amy Shark to Jesswar, Bleeding Knees Club to Karl S Williams, Eliza and the Delusionals, Ivey, Lane Harry x Ike Cambpell, Lastlings and PACES," Gold Coast Music Awards director Samantha Morris said.

The awards will take place as part of Surfers Paradise LIVE, a free multi-day music festival featuring the likes of Daryl Brathwaite, John Stevens and Kate Ceberano.

Nominations close 2 March with winners announced at the ceremony on Thursday 3 May.
