This year’s Thrashville heavy music festival is set to host a special event which will see local legend, Neil Smith, shave off his 26-year-old beard in the name of charity.

Smith will be making the cut in support of REDKITE, after a family friend fought a courageous battle with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2017.

Fundraising efforts have already seen over $6,000 collected with Smith’s ultimate goal being to hit the $10,000 mark.

This isn’t the first time that Smith’s beard has stepped up for lifesaving purposes. 22-years ago, Smith was rushed to hospital following a head on collision where doctors discovered that a cut across Smith’s neck avoided being fatal thanks to a protective barrier made by his legendary beard.

“That beard saved my life, no doubt,” says Smith. “And now I reckon it’s time for it to help someone else."

Listed as The Mighty Shave in the Thrashville program, Smith will take to the stage to remove the beard that has already given so much.

To support the charitable endeavour donate via Smith’s Everyday Hero fundraising page or head along to Thrashville and purchase a raffle ticket.
