‘Tis the season to enjoy a balmy evening with a drink in hand and some quality music, and it just so happens you can find exactly that at Prahran’s iconic Chapel Off Chapel, as its popular Summer Sessions kick off this weekend. Over a two-week season, a series of intimate, stripped back gigs provide the perfect soundtrack for the warmest month of the year.
Kicking off proceedings on 13 Jan, multi-platinum selling artist Nathaniel Willemse presents his personal ode to the great Marvin Gaye. Let’s Get It On, features hits including Sexual Healing, and the soul classic Heard It Through The Grapevine.
Next up on 18 Jan, six-piece soul outfit Mayfield offer a fusion of chilled beats, smooth melodies and powerhouse vocals. In the words of TripleJ: “Their live performances will knock you out of your seat.”
Making her third appearance at the Summer Sessions, Thando takes the spotlight on 19 Jan. This phenomenally multidimensional performer is fast solidifying her status as one of Melbourne’s most exciting R&B talents; this promises to be the must-see gig of this year's Sessions series.
Singer-songwriter and Folk raconteur Jordie Lane is a true virtuoso in the great art of storytelling through song. With a body of work now spanning eight releases, this show on 25 Jan will be a chance to see Jordie’s songs at their most stripped-back and intimate.
Closing the season on 27 Jan, young gun popstar-on-the-rise Brendan Maclean will make his return to Melbourne to play a one-off acoustic show, reimagining his catalogue of electro-pop floor-fillers through the grand piano.
