Two local filmmakers have spent the last 18 months filming a new documentary that highlights Melbourne's thriving music scene, in a bid to premiere it at this year's Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).
Director Tobias Willis and producer Marcus Rimondini's Now Sound gives an intimate look into the city's music community, as well as explores relevant topics in Australia's music industry today, starting from the 2016 Community Cup all the way to last year's Gizzfest.
Some names featured in the documentary include Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Jen Cloher, as well as festivals, organisations, conferences and venues such as Chapter Music, MILK! Records, Face The Music, BIGSOUND, Sounds Australia and The Gasometer Hotel.
A Pozible campaign is currently up and running to help Willis and Rimondini complete the documentary in time to submit to MIFF in March — click here to donate.
"The documentary itself is about the Melbourne music community, and the things that have spawned post the 2010 slam rally," Rimondini told The Music.
"It's around 90 minutes and we are aiming for MIFF. Most of the funding is for paying editors to finish the doco, colour grading, sound enhancing and music licensing which is very complicated for such as a broad doco.
"The team behind KEWL is Tobias Willis as director and myself as producer, but Zachary from Banalarama has helped heaps, and so have about 10 other camera operators from our studio and around the music scene."
